Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she attended the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she decided she wanted to be an actor. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she studied acting as well as singing. At the age of 10, Emma had taken part in many Stagecoach plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's screen debut took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's debut in the year 2001. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings as well as being the most-grossing feature of 2001. Reviewers praised the film, particularly the young performers. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's performance "amazing". Emma later won five awards in recognition of her work in the film.
